Beautiful locks of curly hair.

Do you ever feel like shaving your hair? Like just all of it to get rid of that demon on your head? When you’re tying up your hair, does the elastic ever break and you have a meltdown? Well, I do, and if you do too let me give you some tips so you don’t go bald.

If you have curly hair like me, you know what I’m talking about. Our hair is both a blessing and a burden. Yes, curly hair is gorgeous, but it takes us a long long time to get it that way. Yes, we have the simple job of putting water on it, but that’s only the beginning of the process. Curly hair has a mind of its own, which is sometimes good and bad for us and the people around us.

Anabelle Gonzalez, a freshman at the iSchool, said,“One time I got so pissed off  cut a chunk of my hair off.” She obviously didn’t cut her hair. We always say we’re gonna cut it but if we really did every time we got mad at our hair, we’d be bald by now. When you get frustrated with your hair, take deep breaths and count to ten. Once you’ve calmed down, try the hairstyle again.

Curly hair is hard to manage, as the basic hairstyle of a ponytail usually takes about 5 minutes at least, unless the hair tie breaks then even longer. If you have trouble doing ponytails, try positioning your head downward to make holding the hair together easier.

Trying to keep your knot from turning into dreadlocks. The struggle is real! Just detangling it takes at least 30 mins, but literally no joke takes 3 secs. to tangle up again. There’s no such thing as being able to run your fingers through curly hair. One because you’ll mess up the beautiful curl, and two because it won’t  make it all the way through without breaking your hair or finger. Our hair that works in ways sometimes for the best or sometimes as your worst enemy. But at the end of the day, it’s what makes us unique. To prevent your hair from getting knotted so fast, try putting leave-in conditioner before detangling it. That should keep it knot free for the day, but if not try putting it into two braids until you’re ready to do the hair style.

Sofia Chelo,a senior at the iSchool, said, “I’m so used to it by now. Like I know other people have like a serious routine, but I don’t do a lot to it so it’s pretty easy.”Sofia has really, really curly hair so it was surprising that she felt this way. Maybe we should take some tips from her in the future to make our lives easier like hers.

Don’t get us wrong, we love our hair just as much as other people do. But everyone gets tired of their hair after sometime, but we get over it. It’s something everyone does. Weather we really chop it off or not is up to us.

“Sometimes yes because I stand out but no because i break all my hair ties,”said Anabelle. I think we can all agree that sometimes it can be a but much. Trying to accomplish daily activities with curly hair can be frustrating, but we are grateful for the blessing that not everyone has.
