The boys need their mirror back!!
March 3, 2022
The upperclassmen know that the closet now labeled as the boys’ bathroom used to have a bathroom mirror. Did we use it to check our appearance? No one really remembers. But it adds character to our former walk-in closet bathroom. Instead, we have an empty space, blue paint, and that iNews sign that survived for no longer than three weeks.
Juniors Mario Ilievski and Leo Godsberg both remember having to use the bathroom and the mirror that it once contained. Both feel like we should have the Mirror back. “Mirrors are essential, when you come in, in the morning you gotta fix your hair, you gotta see if you have dirt on your face, you know?” Mario stated.
Mario is not alone in this. In a survey where other iSchoolers were asked their thoughts on the mirror, approximately 90% of the 22 students surveyed had similar opinions.
“I wouldn’t really use the mirror as I use my phone to look at myself, but it really isn’t a bathroom without a mirror,” said Dexter Armstrong, a senior.
To those who were here during blended learning last year, you may also remember that the Men’s Staff Bathroom (which is no doubt spacious, and overbuilt for our small male teacher population) has mirrors of their own (plus a window!). Where’s our window too for that matter of fact?
“No, why don’t we get the men’s bathroom?” Leo exclaimed, “We have a larger boys student population than we do male teachers at the school. Ours is a closet!”
That’s not the main argument here, but when we start to look at all the things that the boy’s bathroom is missing we start to see a pattern. It’s small, unventilated, oddly warm for some reason, and smelly. It’s a bathroom, so nothing can be done about the smell, but what we can do is get a mirror. That’s a good place to start.
We don’t want THE MIRROR, we just want something basic, something we can see if our hair is good, if we got something somewhere, or if our fit is good. A really simple question I think most people can agree with, such a question was put forth by Mario: “Let me ask you this, why does every bathroom in the world have a mirror and we don’t?”
So, can we get that mirror?
Time will tell.
