Call of Duty Black Ops 4 Review

Call of Duty, created by Activision, is a first person shooter game that has been a fan favorite for over 15 years now. The game is designed to immerse players in a campaign where they battle in wars as though they are a soldier on the grounds.They have multiplayer where players all over the world to compete against each other in different game modes varying from Free-for-all to capture the flag. There is even a zombie mode where players can solo up, or team up with their friends, to defend against zombies for as long as they can.

The new Call of Duty Black Ops 4 (BO4) was just released for all players on October 12th, and the reviews are in… It’s a hit. The graphics of call of duty has been upgrading ever so slightly by 120 fps (frames per second) each time a game drops. Sadly, it does not include a campaign for players, but the multiplayer mode lets you play against other online players while learning about the story mode.

The main difference about the game is the new “Blackout” mode. Blackout is a battle royal mode. In this mode it’s everyone for themselves. There is  a big map where players try to eliminate one another after being dropped out of a plane. Players do this by finding weapons on the floor and from loot boxes. The whole time players are doing this there is a storm that pushes players towards each other, and is following their tails at all times. And yes, the storm eliminates the player if they are caught in the storm for too long.

The mode contains 100 players or less in one game. There are different modes in Blackout, which can be played solo (you vs other solo players), in pairs ( you and 1 friend vs other duos), and in squads (you and 3 other friends vs other squads).

Over the years, Call of Duty has built up a large amount of rival games. One of the biggest and most recent competitors is called Fortnite. All of the kids talk about it these days, and it is just getting bigger as more time passes. Recently, people have stopped playing Call of Duty and have started playing Fortnite instead. But BO4 plans on drawing back the attention of their fans by using the same gameplay mechanic as Fortnite, which is Blackout (the battle royal mode).

Another rival that was competing with Call of Duty for many years is called Halo. Halo is  a first person shooter game that takes place in space. It was a massive hit with the children. They have been in a constant battle for gamer superiority. Some of the more recent competing games are Halo 5 and Call of Duty Black Ops 3. The clear winner in this game war was Halo since its gameplay mechanics best matched the consumers desires. It took years for Call of Duty to realize what exact feature the consumers wanted. Hence the addition of the blackout battle royal mode. And who knows, this might be the greatest version of Call of Duty ever.

Sophomore Gian Paul, who has purchased BO4 said, “The game is really fun. Activision made the game way more enjoyable with the new Blackout mode, which by the way is very addictive.”

Dan (who did not want to give his last name) a 19 year old college freshman from NYU, said, “What do I think about the new Call of Duty? What do I think? I think it’s one of the best games of 2018. Fortnite was overrated, BO4 is something that brings a lot to the table and will keep getting bigger and bigger, just you guys wait.”

Overall, the mass opinion of this game differs. Some say it is a direct copy of other battle royal games. Some say this is the savior of Call of Duty. In our personal opinion it is just another battle royal game that has its ups and downs. What do you guys think? Will it die out in a year or two, or will it overtake as the best game of 2018?
