Why the Western view of K-Pop is xenophobic: Film festival
April 8, 2021
A brief dissertation regarding K-pop surrounding the creation of the genre, how foreign artists (with a focus on the K-pop group BTS) battle xenophobia in the American music industry and why it really isn’t a genre after all. Including interviews from everyday K-pop fans, as well as insight from NYC Governor of the Recording Academy, Falu Shah, this video is a crash course designed to deconstruct our daily biases surrounding non-Americans and their quest to be fully recognized for their achievements outside of the “foreign” label, in a country where we consume Asian culture yet don’t greet the inhabitants of said culture with the same eagerness.
