A Modest Proposal

As everyone already knows, climate change is a huge problem. We have come way too far along for any plastic-free items, or for picking up trash to actually make a difference, so we need another plan. Even if we were able to come up with an environmentally friendly version of everything that makes our planet more damaged, It will never be enough. For example, they sell plastic bags and reusable bags, but if the reusable ones are more expensive, you can’t blame people for not buying them. This issue is beyond any new inventions being able to actually help solve the problem. People from Generation Z were born into this problem already becoming irreversible. However many generations before us were also born into climate change, they just chose to ignore it, or possibly didn’t believe in it. It makes perfect sense that older generations wouldn’t believe that climate change could get this bad, since not everyone knows the full truth. However, now that it has gotten this far, and scientists have proven it is real, there is no point in having an opinion about if it is real or not. Not everyone is going to want to help save the planet. Whether their reasoning is that they are scared, and don’t want to admit that climate change is getting worse, or that they genuinely believe that it is a hoax.  And most of the time when teenagers do talk about this, we aren’t taken seriously.

It seems as though whenever there is an issue going on in the world, it is discussed, and people seem to care about making a change, but in the way that it is a trend. Information on things like climate change is spread through social media, and when it is popularized, more people are learning about it. However, once some time has passed, it doesn’t always stay as important to people. Things like earth day, or any other events made to remember climate change are helpful, but we should be spending more time figuring out what we can do to help. You also have to look at this problem on how it affects people differently. It makes sense that younger people should feel more frightened about climate change than older people. And this is because of the downward direction we are going in, when it comes to climate change getting progressively worse over time, kids and teenagers’ futures are at stake.

There could be a solution for all of the disagreements, and controversy on this subject. The majority of people who don’t believe in climate change, or just don’t want to help save our planet are the generations above millennials. Nothing is going to change if we can’t come up with one solution that works for everyone. So my proposal is that we send everyone from the age group above Millenials to live on mars. Scientists have been studying the habitability on mars for years, and space isn’t an easy subject to learn about, so no one really knows if it is liveable on mars. We would need a lot more equipment for everyone on earth to move to mars, so it makes more sense to send Generation x and above only. It would take around 7 to 9 months to arrive on mars, so the sooner that people leave the better. It is hard to think that it has come to this, but this is truly the only way that anything will work out.

This idea definitely isn’t safe, or a good plan to actually be able to stop climate change. Even if we did know Mars was habitable, it wouldn’t be logical to only send a group of people into space. And doing so wouldn’t solve this problem. However, Climate change is still a problem that we haven’t found a solution for, but we have been able to make small changes, and still continue to do so.
