A Modest Proposal
The harsh winter is something humanly unbearable at this point and I firmly believe most of us have come to that consensus. During the winter, many states within the U.S have to worry about the snow, its accumulation, and the aftermath of having to deal with its extent: shoveling, cleaning, disposing of it, canceling work and all sorts of other issues. If we didn’t have to worry about the troubles that the snowy weather brings us as civilizations, and the ways in which it tramples our time, we would all be able to live easier lives.
According to NOAA data analyzed by the Rutgers Global Snow Lab, the snow cover extent in the winter season of December 2020–February 2021, was 74,775 square miles above the 1991–2020 average and “ranked 18th highest in the 55-year period of record.” (NOAA) These averages affect pretty much everyone, and that includes employ’s, students, the homeless, and anyone that needs to get around whether that’s on foot or in a vehicle. Cleaning the dirty brown mush of snow off the streets and sidewalks requires a lot of labor that honestly slows down most things. Working towards a future where we don’t have to clean snow accumulation is a huge advantage because the government won’t have to waste funding on tons of salt and instead provide that money to other social and economical issues. To thoroughly add on, people will no longer have to waste money on shovels and other cleaning supplies we usually purchase for the winter and cold weather. Can you imagine a future where you won’t have to worry about buying snow boots, or Hazard Triangles and LED Flasher for your car? A future where you won;t have to wake up at the crack of dawn to clean your car covered in snow days after giving it a car wash. It’s spiritually lifting.
Another advantage to eradicating snow in cold states is the fact that we will see less car accidents that are prone when snow makes it pretty much impossible to buy. According to Alex Kopestinsky, about “900 people who get killed in the US every year” is due to vehicle crashes on snow-covered roads (Kopestinsky.) Icy pavements also became a major risk and are actually responsible for over 1,000 deaths annually within the United States. Winter storms in the US have also been classified as extreme weather conditions that result in fatal driving accidents—something that could be avoided by preventing snow from falling. Major climate drops won’t be such a huge problem within the states, meaning people won’t have to die from hyperthermia and overall, the economy would thrive because people won’t be missing work and students won’t be pushed back in school due to critical conditions.
My intellectual society, I gladly take matters into my own hands by proposing the following solution: The construction of a clear glass rectangular shaped structure on top of the United States only during the winter is a grand solution to this deadly issue. The construction of this rectangular dome will provide people with countless amounts of jobs because of the size of thus creation, therefore also helping with the unemployment crisis. Let us not forget that the advances we have been seeing in technology will soon allow us to build this structure digitally, faster, and more resourcefully and after the winter ends, the clear structure will be removed and everyone will be able to enjoy the warm weather.
I will now take it upon myself to understand everyone’s concern. There are many states that aren’t prepared to deal with snow and cold weather. We take into account Texas and their situation after only 2 inches of snow. A lot of people were getting sick and if this structure will help solve that it’s a win-win situation for everyone. There will in fact be houses constructed on the top of the structure for people who prefer to live in snowy environments during the winter and after the winter they are humbly welcomed to come back to lower lands for the warm summers (if preferred that is.) For all my international individuals, there will be availability and access for planes so people don’t have to worry about not being able to leave the country so do not worry. Everyone concerned about humanartory safety hazards, air will be released out of the structure every week and newer air will be able to circulate back in so people don’t have to worry about suffocating. Because the dome will prevent rain from entering as well, the dome will have systems installed that collect rainwater in order to constantly be providing water for plants and trees throughout the winter so they don’t completely deteriorate. Last and final worry, many fear lack of sunlight within the dome—the glass of the structure will still allow us to experience most of the chilly weather for those like the cold and we will still be able to feel the heat of the sun and get sunlight so everyone using solar energy doesn’t have to worry.
I deeply apologize for being a houx, but I personally will not let my family endeavor in such a task, as it is impossible for any human population to build such a massive creation. We are bound to perish from either lack of natural air and resources, or from financial withdrawal from the government after they wasted all their funds building something that was in all “a waste of money.” We will all continue to clean our streets and cars properly and drive safely in thus dangerous weather because we are human and unfortunately nothing can be done prevent the snow from falling.
