The dangerous secret of Yellowstone
March 24, 2017
Many of the world’s population longs to go to Yellowstone National Park. An extravagant park awaits its visitors as geysers erupt, acid lakes carry an array of beautiful colors, and wildlife roams free for everyone to see.
But, how could all of these wonders be all in one confined area in the world?
Underneath Yellowstone lies the largest volcano in the world. Spanning 37 miles from one side to the other, this super massive volcano would cover Wyoming, Montana, Idaho, and parts of Utah, Colorado, North and South Dakota, and Nevada in at least 100-300 (4 to 12 inches) millimeters of volcanic ash that would kill millions of crops and animals.
The volcano would also cover the rest of the U.S. in volcanic ash, but not enough to warrant a mandatory evacuation of the area. The eruption of this volcano does not only affect the United States. The world’s economy would drop significantly due to the U.S. having a depression many time more intense than the Great Depression that occurred in the early 20th century.
The eruption could also lead to the world’s biggest migration. Most of the population of 21 states would have to evacuate to escape the heaps of volcanic ash heading their way. Millions of people would have to move to the East Coast or to other countries leaving a now blackened, dead, and barren Western United States, now uninhabitable.
When asked, did you know that Yellowstone National Park sits on top of the world’s most massive super volcano?, students Coltrane, and Jian Chen answered: “No, that’s some spooky stuff right there” and “No! I did not know that!”
If you feel scared, don’t be.
Scientists predict the next eruption of this volcano to be sometime in the next 1-2 million years.
There is a 1 in 700,000 chance every year that the volcano could erupt, but the chance is so slim that we don’t have to worry about it too much.
We have problems in our world today that could be fixed if money and effort was put into them so focus on those issues and try to live a happy life.
