Trump can’t get his controversial ban past Congress

The travel ban is a ban that prohibits certain foreigners from entering the United States of America, but not many people agree with it, including Congress

President Trump has once again attempted to get his revised travel ban past Congress, and for the fourth time it hasn’t gone through.

This travel ban hasn’t been something most people in America have supported, and neither have foreigners. After the Supreme Court and lower courts dismissed it multiple times,it doesn’t look like the judges will ever support it.

On October 10, Congress blocked the travel ban after seeing it as something that goes against The Constitution. They didn’t just disagree with the ban itself, but lower courts did, too. Most Americans have been delighted by the news. Meanwhile, the Trump administration has reached another dead end.

Many people around the nation and globe have had different thoughts on the the travel ban, but a lot of them seem to have agreed on the fact that it is unfair and not right.

The topic of the travel ban has even reached schools, in which debates have taken place on the subject.

The travel ban’s dismissal is good news for many people. One of these people is Ms. Glass, a history teacher at the NYC iSchool.

“It’s unconstitutional. It violates the idea that all people are treated equally, but if we’re treating people differently now then it’s against it. We should not have different standards based on the origin of people.”

Like many other people, Ms. Glass agrees with the decisions and actions made by the Supreme Court and lower courts against President Trump’s travel ban. “I would not be surprised that they will ban us from going to their country, as well,” she added.

Ms. Glass isn’t the only teacher that has agreed with the dismissal of the travel ban. Ms. Coughlin, an English teacher, had a similar reaction to Ms. Glass.

She said, “I mean, this travel ban could affect many people in the U.S. because there are families in here that could be affected by this ban. Many people could be separated with their family. Not only the people in America though, others that still lives in their own country could lose their job opportunities, too. So I think it could affect many people either living in our country or not.”

Later on, she added her own thoughts on how Trump might be viewing the travel ban.

“I think Trump wants a travel ban because it’s a quick fix and a pause to a more complex problem where nowadays, we have terrorists’ attacks. At the same time, the judges could interpret the law wrong so they’re kind of challenging Trump. ”

Therefore, Ms. Coughlin is saying here that the travel ban is a great solution to end terrorist attacks and that the judges should view it from a different perspective.

On the other hand, there are also students who strongly agree with the decision of the Supreme Court like Ms. Glass. One of these students is Christopher Cisse, a freshman:“It bans certain people from the United States that the President believes may negatively affect our countries. It may block terrorists but this is highly unlikely in my opinion.”

Overall, Christopher Cisse has been really pleased by the decision of Congress to stop President Trump’s travel ban, since he believes that it could affect many people in our country.

“The judges did a good job, foreigners may have dreams in the U.S., and without the travel ban, they will have a bigger chance at this.”

Cisse also hopes that the Supreme Court keeps on trying to block the ban because he sees it as something that is very unfair, no matter how many times it’s revised.

“Yes,” he said, “I hope they keep blocking it because the ban is something that is extremely unconstitutional.”

Another freshman  Adjo Adjgan, has something to add about the travel ban as well. She thinks that Trump’s travel ban is very unreasonable and unfair to those people from the countries that President Trump is trying to ban.

Adjo explained, “The travel ban discriminates against nationalities and this country is set up on opportunities and justice, so if we keep people out due to their nationality, we’re denouncing what we stand for.”

Many immigrants would be affected too. Adjo gave an example of herself and her family. She said, “Many people living in the U.S. come from immigrant parents or once was an immigrant such as myself. They themselves or their parents may get deported back to their country and this could have a huge affect on their daily lives.”

The travel ban could affect many people in the US and people around the world. People who live in harsh conditions in other parts of the world may not get the opportunity to make a better living for themselves and their families due to the travel ban.

“I think the judge did a good thing by dismissing the travel ban,” Adjo said at last.

Overall, most people in the NYC iSchool are in agreement on blocking the travel ban, and it seems like they will stand by their opinion for a long time.

“If it’s lawful then we should follow it, if it’s not then we should change it. Simply disagreeing something doesn’t change anything. We would also lose copious people that are coming to America because we will look like a country that doesn’t have diversities anymore if the travel ban was passed,” said Ms. Coughlin.
