ISIS threatens world star soccer players Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo
ISIS is known for threatening and attacking people. This time, their threat is aimed toward the World Cup and three of its leading players.
The World Cup has always been a tournament in which soccer fans all over the world come together and support each of their countries. Now fear is being brought into the tournament because of ISIS. ISIS has just released disturbing posters showing Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo being held by ISIS. Messi and Ronaldo were beat while Neymar was about to be executed. These posters and threats have brought fear into the World Cup and are starting to make fans question whether going to the World Cup would be safe.
In the NYC iSchool, there are several thoughts on this topic. Ronald Noel Jr. a freshman here at the iSchool has heard about this and has several things to say about this situation.
“I feel bad for the players because they are special people that represent their countries.”
Noel believes that players such as Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo are people that are strong idols for their countries.
When Ronald Noel Jr. saw these posters that have been considered graphic, he gave his opinion on them, which was that he firmly believes that the posters should not have been created nor shown. It is still no surprise to him that they were shown though.
“I feel neutral about the posters because they aren’t anything new, but they still shouldn’t be showing them.”
Noel also thinks that ISIS attacking the World Cup wouldn’t be a smart idea because more countries would go against them. ISIS would then be in much greater danger of losing fights and becoming much weaker.
“No, I don’t think that they would attack the World Cup because they would have much more countries against them. Just imagine, Brazil, Argentina, Portugal etc., all going against ISIS. ISIS is strong, but they aren’t strong enough to fight all of these countries.”
Another freshman here at the NYC iSchool is Devin Morton, who also has thoughts on the news of Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo being threatened.
“They shouldn’t be worried because they haven’t done anything and are extremely protected.”
Devin Morton believes that Messi, Ronaldo and Neymar haven’t done anything. Therefore, he is saying that there isn’t anything for them to worry about, and also because they will have high security on them.
The only way that Morton thinks to prevent an attack from occurring is for the Russian government to take high security actions.
“The Russian government should do bag checks and any other type of security precaution to stay as safe as possible from a terrorist attack.”
Advisory and Calculus teacher Ms. Baracaldo said, “Ronaldo, Messi and Neymar should keep on going with their career. You can only control your actions, not the actions of others.”
Ms. Baracaldo is saying here that the players threatened shouldn’t be scared about the threats and should just go on with their lives because they can’t control ISIS. They can only do what they can do, so they should just stay as safe as possible.
“ISIS is most probably threatening the FIFA World Cup because a lot of countries meet there and people from all over the world.”
Ms. Baracaldo said the following is the reason for why ISIS would target the 2018 Russia World Cup.
“Hundreds of thousands of people go to the World Cup and they all are from different parts of the world. ISIS could use this to their advantage to spread their message and actions to more of the world.”
Just like others outside of the iSchool, students and staff in the iSchool are strongly against these threats against the World Cup and Messi, Neymar and Ronaldo.
One thing that can be said for sure is that threats like these aren’t going to stop fans all over the world from supporting their country’s team in the 2018 and future World Cup games.
“People shouldn’t change their mind on going to the World Cup because of these threats. More people die in a year because of car crashes, and they still get in and use cars,” said Ms. Baracaldo.
