Lebron chasing his dream
January 19, 2018
It was December 30, 1984, in Akron, Ohio, when one of the many GOATS was born. No, not literal a goat. When people say G.O.A.T, they mean someone that is the greatest of all time in whatever they do. His name is LeBron Raymone James.
Many people that do not follow basketball can only name the most famous basketball players like Kobe Bryant, Michael Jordan, Kyrie Irving, and LeBron James. Even though a lot of people know who they are, they do not know the path to their greatness.
Some believe LeBron is the new MJ (Michael Jordan) since he is recognized as one of the best basketball players alive. However, others say LeBron is overrated because he is such a powerful and recognizable player.
On May 31, 2017, Someone graffitied a racist term on one of his houses in LA. They wrote a racist term referring to slavery. LeBron James receives huge amounts of hate left and right because of him being so well known. LeBron’s response to this is, “No matter how much money you have…being black is America is tough.”
The question still remains: Is LeBron James = the goat or is he just extremely overrated?
People that follow basketball such as Mr. Fitts, math teacher at the iSchool, says, “No, I don’t think he is overrated at all. I think he is dominant and has been dominant for a long time. He came right out of high school to play. He is by far one of the greatest that ever played.“
Ronald Noel Jr, freshman, thinks, “I think he deserves the attention he gets because he has three rings. One of them was without a super team. LeBron showed that he can take a team that is almost nothing and make it into something. That is why LeBron deserves all the attention he gets.”
Thomas Walsh, freshman, says, “He is not overrated. He is nice to the people and does indeed deserve the attention he gets. He is a great player and also a great person.”
LeBron claims that he has always looked up to Michael Jordan, and he only kept it to himself. He said he is trying to get to Michael Jordan’s level. In a post game conference after the finals game he said, “It’s a personal goal, I just never brought it up. It’s my own personal goal to be able to be greater than great. I think that should be everybody’s personal goal.” He never brought it up because he found it a personal goal but not something to share with the public.
From his stats, LeBron James in fact has surpassed Jordan’s shooting percentage when LeBron played for the Miami Heat. When he played for them in 2013 and 2014, his shooting percentage was 64% to 64.9%, which are better than any of Jordan’s in his whole career.
From the people at the iSchool and what they think, one can conclude that LeBron is indeed not overrated. He is not only a great person but a great teammate, who deserves all the attention that he gets and should be recognized as a GOAT.
