Slowly slipping

Anabelle Gonzalez

I don’t know what I did to deserve this.

My brain won’t turn off.

Running at 100 miles a minute with no end in sight.

The creaking of the metal swing set.

The laughing of little children.

The sound of the ice cream truck.

Every noise fades into the background as I rock –

Back and forth,

Breathing heavily,

Tears dripping down my face,

I can’t control it.

My senses are slowly slipping away.

My vision gets fuzzy.

My hands feel tingly.

My face starts heating up.

I feel myself slowly tipping over as a pair of hands grab me saying, “woah woah woah”

That’s the last thing I heard as my eyes fade to black,

I was free at last…
