Coffee: The iSchool’s favorite coffee places
March 21, 2019
You wake up, go to school tired, but luckily you arrive pretty early. That leaves you some time to get something that will wake you up. Something that tastes good, is aromatic, and you could choose either iced or hot. Coffee.
You might be unsure where to get your coffee, especially depending on your taste and your budget. Here are some recommendations from iSchool students on where to get your delicious coffee, hot or iced.
Dunkin’ Donuts
Dunkin’ Donuts, a very well known chain in New York city, open for 24 hours. Dunkin’ Donuts is a very common place, especially in the city. Not only does it sell iced coffee, but they also sell sandwiches, donuts, frozen juices, and much more!
Sara Hossein, freshman, recommends Dunkin’ Donuts on 381 Canal St, New York, NY 10013 because, “[T]hey have different types of flavors.” When you want something different, you might want to go to Dunkin’ Donuts, instead of getting a plain old coffee.
Let’s look at another factor: price convenience.
Piper Demartino, freshman, thinks that “for a small no, cause it’s too little, but for a medium and large it’s a great size for a great price.” This might be a little more coffee than what you usually get, but like Piper said, “it’s a great size for a great price.”
Starbucks
The Starbucks near NYC iSchool is located at 72 Spring St, New York, NY 10012.
Starbucks. founded in 1971, has been in business for a pretty long time, it’s probably the most common coffee shop you will find literally at any corner, in a “State of the Chains” article from 2013, it states that “Starbucks has more stores in Manhattan than any other national retailer, with 212 locations.”
Freshman Slava Hausler-Lew believes that Starbucks is one of her targeted spots to get iced coffee. “[I get it from Starbucks] because it’s really good, and from the amount of times I’ve been to the Starbucks near our school, I’ve been treated with some pretty good service.”
Although, Slava also believes that there are some cons to Starbucks, “No, it is not convenient, well, it depends on what you order.I would definitely go somewhere else, but if I’m feeling like I want something really good and flavorful, I would definitely go to Starbucks.” \.
Fausto Rosado, freshmen, agrees that Starbucks is one of the “best” places to get coffee from. “They have a wide variety of drinks and food.”
Just, like Dunkin’ Donuts, Starbucks also sells some treats. Fausto spends an average of “$50-$75 a week on Starbucks”, and he says that it’s not convenient price-wise. He would recommend Starbucks to other people because the quality of the coffee and foods are delicious.
If you’re looking for somewhere that’s less than 3 minutes away from school, you might want to go in this next spot.
The Coffee Cart (in front of Warby Parker New York City HQ and Showroom)
Coffee Carts, not necessarily “shops,” but they’re somewhere to get your breakfast, donuts, hot chocolates and of course, coffee. Around the iSchool, there are more than one coffee cart: one near Essen, another one in front of the Spring street train station (the one that goes Uptown).
But the one that’s most frequently mentioned is the coffee cart in front of Warby Parker New York City HQ and Showroom. Sara Hossein also likes the coffee cart; she “ [thinks it’s convenient] because it is only 2 dollars and it is right near the school.” Two in one, cheap and near the school.
In addition, there are many people on the line either ordering iced coffee, donuts, or breakfast. The only con of this coffee cart is that since it’s for breakfast, it’s only there until approximately 1:00 pm. There is also not really a variety to choose from, so if you’re someone who gets the same thing every day, this is definitely your stop.
Slava Hausler-Lew, says, “The [coffee cart] guy, just sees me in the morning on line and already knows what I’m going to order.” So not only are you saving yourself time, you also saving other people’s time.
Some people might worry for coffee drinkers like, Slava, Gemma, Piper, and Sara because they are teenager drinking coffee, and coffee has lots of sugar and caffeine, but according to Heart.org, coffee is “an excellent source of antioxidants, which may help protect cells from damage [and] Studies have shown that caffeine may improve your mood, help your brain work better and improve performance during exercise.”of course that is if you drink a healthy amount of coffee which is, 400 milligrams for most healthy adults.
iSchool students gave us a little bit of their opinions on their favorite coffee.
So, have you decided on what your going to order next time?
