My personal theme was Life in NYC. In my photo series i wanted to show things that are part of a New Yorkers everyday life. I wanted to do this to show how many small things  that New Yorkers don’t really pay attention to and take for granted. I chose this as my theme, because i noticed whenever my friends or family come to the city from a suburb they tend to question things that seem completely normal to me.

One of my photos was of a subway entrance taken at night, this is a view that New Yorkers see daily. I wanted to take a photo of this because New Yorkers  take the subway everyday but pay no attention to it. Taking the subway, buses and other forms of public transportation is is normal, and many people’s main form of transportation. So the subway, and buses have become so normal and part of everyday life in new York.

Another one of my photos is me buying coffee from a cart in the morning. To me, and probably a lot of other New Yorkers, this is a l daily activity that is completely normal, and I usually don’t pay much attention to, however to someone who doesn’t live in New York, this could seem odd. Another one of my photos from my photojournalism week is a candid photo of a couple sitting in Union Square park. This ties into my theme because it is two people going about their everyday life.

My third photo is my historical photo recreation. This photo is my recreation of Marilyn Monroe’s famous photo of her standing on a subway grate. even though this photo doesn’t necessarily show city life as the main focus, the background shows a cityscape. In the background of this photo there is subway grates, buildings, doormen, and a person getting into a taxi. These are things that I see every day, so I wouldn’t think twice about these photos. Living in new york city had normalized so many things for me that other people might find not normal.
