iNews iNbox: The Knicks’ playoff hopes, the Cleveland Browns, Russell Westbrook and sexism in sports.

When will the Knicks make the playoffs? –Kaden David, senior

So far the future is looking bleak for the Knicks, however, there are a few doors that could be open for the Knicks in the near future. For example, the Knicks recently fired new head coach David Fizdale after just 104 games, and according to a December 2019 report in The Athletic, Knicks president Steve Mills might be on the hot seat as well. In Mills’ 13 seasons as president, the Knicks posted an atrocious 350-656 record. Where I’m getting with this is, in the midst of this shakeup, current Raptors president Masai Ujiri reportedly is “intrigued” by the prospect of taking over the Knicks and trying to fix their woes. Ujiri led the Raptors, since signing a 5-year contract in 2013, to two Conference Finals and helped them win the 2019 NBA Finals. Another bonus with Ujiri is he isn’t a stranger to high-profile and successful deals; Ujiri was instrumental in the Kawhi Leonard-Danny Green swap for DeMar DeRozan. A second door that is open is Giannis Antetekounmpo may opt out of his Bucks contract to hit the free agent market in 2020, and with Giannis at the helm if the Knicks can nab him, their playoff odds might not be so bleak. But to answer your question, and sorry for being long-winded but unless those things happen, or the Knicks can find a way to rid themselves of their management woes, we may not see the Knicks in the playoff picture for another five years or so.

Are the Cleveland Browns going to be able to reach the Super Bowl within five years? They seem to be making a pretty good roster for themselves. -Harrison Reinisch, sophomore

The Browns are probably the most unpredictable team in the NFL, seeing as they shook up their management last year, signed Odell Beckham Jr, Kareem Hunt and at the beginning of the year, Browns fans were confident. And then they ended up with a 6-10 record, which proves how difficult it is to predict what this team will be like in the coming years. One big improvement is the firing of Freddie Kitchens, and you never know, maybe they’ll be a wild-card team next year, but it will be hard to predict how this team will look like in the next five years. Hopefully that answers your question.

I’d like to see how many times last season when Russell Westbrook scored a triple-double, did they win that game? -Joseph Kallan, senior

I did a lot of research on this one, and during the 2018-19 season, Westbrook had 36 triple-doubles and the Thunder won 24 of those 36 games.

Why are there so many boys football teams and but not as many girls football teams? I like playing football but I’m having trouble finding a girls team to play on. Why can’t I find one and why is this an issue schools and our communities continue to face? We should be past that level of sexism by now, don’t you think? -Hanna Kessler-Karp, freshman

This is a great question but one that I can’t answer if I’m being honest. I agree with you fully on the question of being past sexism, I think football should be a sport that is open to both boys and girls and an issue that is frankly really outdated. If I had to pinpoint the issue, I would direct you to this article, where it states that many girls don’t opt for football because of the fact that it’s not really an option in their area. Compare football to softball. Softball is a sport that is widely played by girls, and 99% of schools have baseball and softball teams, and I feel like if football was more widely played by girls it would be less of an issue to find a team. If I had to give you advice, I’d say just keep looking, but I agree with you fully that football being considered a male-dominated sport is a very outdated assertion.
