Ahh, yes, springtime. Flowers are blooming; trees are replenishing their green lush. Everyone is active. For the iSchool Lions soccer team, only one thing is on their minds; Lifting the championship trophy. Their coveted focus and determination is quite extraordinary.

Fall was a season to learn from for the iSchool lions. The team fought valiantly all up until the final whistle of the championship game, but fell short and lost 0-2. Not bad for a team just organized at the beginning of this current academic year in September. Sadly, captain Alex Juma sprained his wrist after landing awkwardly from an aerial duel. Leaving the team to sorely feel his absence and they couldn’t quite recover from such a blow.

Genuinely, there definitely are good vibes in the ‘dressing room’. Despite the devastating loss in the finale of fall. A new change is at the head of the whole team, because Mr. Crea stepped down. Mr. Daniel Jones has been appointed to replace him as the coach for the foreseeable future. Jones has plenty of experience in the athletic scene, having coached the Chelsea school below us and their men’s basketball team. He also has coached in the Soho area some local soccer teams.

Spring season seems to give the team a breath of fresh air. Entirely, the team seems eager and motivated to reach for the stars. A lot of seniors are on the team, and they are anxious to win this trophy for their beloved high school, as a swansong scenario. In broader terms, to go out on a high note into their respective colleges.

“I feel like they (the squad) will never get better than this, simply because they have all the stars,” said Bryan Anthony Gathers passionately, who is a fellow senior currently and a irreplaceable supporter of this team. “My son Kamil, Alex, Julian. All of them is nice. And they got some juniors, that’s ok. But they’ll never be better or surmount the raw talent of the seniors, because you already know that they’re just LIT!”

Yet another senior, and a new addition to the team as a talented goalkeeper, Jeremy Wyatt, slid me his two cents on the team: “I think the team is really good and has some really talented players. I just hope that we can put it all together and turn it into great teamwork.”

Additionally, I had the chance to sit down with one of the proclaimed luxurious players on the team, Julian Bueno, a senior and one of the centre-midfielders. He had this to say on the team’s objectives for this season: “We have to play as a unit, and implement a attractive discipline style to our game. We definitely taking this ‘chip’ home son!” Definitely the emphatic passion is vibrating from him, that much can be said.

Ms. Charter, one of the two Spanish teachers, was adamant with her views on the team’s hypothetical performance: “I think you guys will perform well when it comes down to the final wire. You seem to work efficiently as a team, and the chemistry is very fluent throughout.”

One of the senior centre-backs on the team, Senior Michael Fernandez said: “I believe that having an official soccer coach is great, because we did need one. So far he’s been doing a great job. He’s planning to reserve a field for us for the spring season so that we can practice as a team and gain more experience together, which is awesome.” One thing is for sure, we are glad to have him on board.

All in all, it’s bound to be a season to remember and keep in the history books. You can come support them every Wednesday starting March 30th; games start at 5pm. Swing by Jame J. Walker field if you want to see the team practice diligently for the crown. Game location will be released at a later date. All games will be at the singular location, that much is clear. Come on you LIONS!
