Baking isn’t just making sweet treats, it’s the whole process of mixing the ingredients and watching it all come together. In this photo essay, we will explore the joy of baking, showing the process from buying the ingredients to the finished desserts. Whether you’re a beginner or experienced, there’s something so special about turning some ingredients into something so tasty. Let’s dive into the world of baking and discover the creativity and love that goes into the recipe. This recipe makes a two-tier cake—and I only wanted a small one-tier version. So, I made the choice to cut the recipe in half.
The original recipe had a long list of ingredients: flour, sugar, cocoa powder, baking powder, baking soda, salt, espresso powder, milk, oil, eggs, vanilla extract, and even boiling water. Halving the measurements wasn’t as easy as I expected. For example, cutting two cups of flour and two cups of sugar in half was simple, but when it came to things like 1 ½ teaspoons of baking soda, I had to slow down and really think about the measurements.
Once I had all the ingredients measured out, I followed the steps carefully. I mixed the dry ingredients and then mixed the wet ones, just like the recipe said. Then, I slowly added the boiling water while mixing it. The batter turned out thinner than I expected, but I learned that’s normal and helps make the cake moist. I poured the batter into one greased 9-inch cake pan and put it into the oven.
I set a timer for 30 minutes, but kept checking to make sure I didn’t overbake it. When I poked a toothpick in the center and it came out clean, I knew it was ready. I let it cool for a while before trying it. In the end, the cake turned out pretty good. I feel like I could have added more sugar, because the cake wasn’t too sweet. Overall, I would rate the cake a 6/10, and I would rate the experience a 9/10. This experience helped me see that baking isn’t just about following directions. It’s about paying attention, being patient, and learning from the process. I also realized that small changes, like halving a recipe, can make a big difference in how much you enjoy the final result.
One of the best parts of baking was how calming it felt. Measuring ingredients, mixing everything by hand, and watching the cake rise in the oven made me feel like a professional baker. Even cleaning up afterward didn’t feel like a chore. I felt proud of what I had made. Next time, I want to try decorating the cake more creatively or experimenting with different flavors. Maybe I’ll add a fruit filling or make a vanilla version. Whatever I bake next, I know I’ll enjoy the process just as much as the final product.

Step #13- Once it was mostly combined, I added ½ cup of boiling water as the recipe says. It turned out to be a little watery, so I added some more flour to the mixture, and it was saved!
