Giannis for MVP?

“The Bucks in the NBA Finals? Ha, stop playing man!”, said by a very wise man.

I am sorry Milwaukee fans, but you have to admit, your team has been pretty mediocre for a while! But it’s not your fault Milwaukee, you have a new man to take over and will most likely bring you to the promise land one day!

The Bucks have been looking for reassurance for the past couple of years. They made the playoffs four times from 2007 to 2017. However, they have never made it out the first round these four times, leaving them as just a mediocre, or even a below average, team.

Throughout this time period, however, they selected the 6’11 Greek native in the 2013 draft with the 15th pick in the 1st round. He was always known as a versatile player who can score easily with subpar shooting.

In his rookie season, he averaged 6.8 points, 4.4 rebounds, 1.9 assists, and 0.8 blocks and steals respectively. Because of these stats, he didn’t get much recognition from the league.

As the years went on, he showed signs of greatness, and finally had his breakout season in 2016. He made the All-Star roster, and averaged 22.9 points, 8.7 rebounds, 5.4 assists, 1.6 steals, 1.9 blocks for the season (leading his teammates in all of these categories), while shooting 52% from the field and 77% from the free throw line (all career-highs). He also led his team to the 6th spot in the Eastern Conference Standings, making the Bucks credible for the playoffs; however, they would lose to the Toronto Raptors in 6 games.

Because of Antetokounmpo’s versatile play, most people thought of him as a player than can play all five positions on both sides of the floor. And at 22 (approaching 23) years of age, he has shown much promise. Maybe, a little too much promise.

Although the season just began, Giannis is a perennial star in the league. He is already averaging 33.7 points, 10.3 rebounds, 5.1 assists, 1.8 steals, and 1.1 blocks, while shooting 60% from the field and 40% from three (a career-high).

Not only is he showing he can play the 3 and 4 positions, but he can also play and guard the point. He is also already showing efficiency from the three, a weakness that is in his game. If he improves his shooting, he can fear many teams in the league.

NBA players are already acknowledging his play so far this year, as well as basketball fans. Trey Atkins, a junior and varsity basketball player in the NYC iSchool says that “his versatile play will get him the MVP award”.

At the end of day, Giannis is crushing it right now! He is going to be a promising star, and the Bucks would be illogical if they trade away the Greek Freak! Nevertheless, he is on his way to leading the Bucks to a great season this year, and who knows what the future will hold!
