Tick tock goes the clock, as the students on the edge of their seats wait for the sound of thee last period bell, signaling they can finally leave. “Ding dong” goes the bell; the students jump out of their seats and run out of the building. And just like that, the halls were empty.

The end of the day at the iSchool is nothing like this. Even though school ends at 3:20, you will most likely find a lot of students still in school. Whether students are in the Commons or office hours, they are further engaged with the school’s method of learning.

One of the most common places to find iSchool students after school are in clubs like Model UN, Social Activism, Black Student Union and iRoof. Students enjoy participating in the variety of clubs that offer a way to transport learning into the real world.

“I love Model UN. It is an amazing environment where people from different points of views come together to debate different issues all around the world,” says Samara Zielen, a freshman at the iSchool. If you are the type of person who loves to debate you should consider joining this club.It meets every tuesday in Ms. Strassler’s room,501, from 4-5 pm.

“I really like SAC. Since I go to camp where we learn about social justice but it’s usually only with people our age. But SAC is very interesting because it’s not just with people our age. So, it’s nice to hear others’ opinion on topics,” says Sadie Krichmar, another freshman at the iSchool. Social activism club discusses serious social justice topics and discusses ways we can solve the injustices. SAC uses the iSchool to raise awareness of certain topics and helps out the communities around the school. SAC meets every thursdays from 4-5 pm  with Mr. Singh in room 508.

“BSU is great. We talk about social injustices and discuss how the youth can help solve them,” added Samara Zielen. This club aims to provide a safe community for all iSchool students. The students in this club participate in a variety of community service projects and cultural events. BSU meets on Wednesdays from 4-5 with Mr. Finkelstein in room 410.

“iRoof is great. We basically work on helping and contributing towards the environment,” said freshman Ziyi (Jade) Zhao. “We used to work on the roof and plant crops, but now we have to change our location. So, we are currently looking for new places to do activities.” iRoof meets with Ms. LaCondi on Wednesdays from 4 to 5 pm. If you are a person who is planning on going green, then you should definitely try this club out.

Putting it all together, the iSchool provides a wide variety of clubs for its students. You have the option to join a sport, a community service club, or a debate club. With these many options you will always find a club that suits you. The teachers are always willing to make a compromise to match their dates with you. If you can’t seem to find a club that screams you, then you also have the option to create your own. The iSchool will always look at your suggestions with an open mind.
