Gian Paul Cadillo

With this project, I inform readers on the benefits and drawbacks of technology while also giving details about the background of large technology companies and devices/programs used everyday. My book “What The Technology Industry Doesn’t Want You To Know” is split into four sections: Who is the technology industry, The dark side of the industry, Impacts on cognitive skills, and Final takeaway. Remaining unbiased, informative, and creative in each of these pages designed in the format of an iPhone or Samsung smartphone, I am able to educate readers on the devices and programs they use everyday. In general, the book revolves around the idea of users being the ones in control of technology, not vice versa.

In addition to the book, I created a lesson plan for high school students in which the goal is to use analytical skills to understand the background of technology companies and their current pros and cons regarding their own creations within users themselves and society as a whole. The activity to carry this out will consist of four groups that will break down each section of the book and share their findings with one another. In other words it is a jigsaw puzzle activity. The lesson will culminate in an assignment in which students will use all the groups’ posters to write a paper on at least three of the topics presented in the book, along with a reflection on how they themselves use technology.
