Winter Concert 2017

Gabriela Lebron

As soon as it was six o’clock, the rock band Dirt performed their first song, “Pretty Woman” by Roy Orbison. This song was a great way to open the show.  The band wore pictures of their own faces on their t-shirts.

Afterwards, they introduced themselves and continued to play the rest of their songs.  Soon after, Weapons of Mass Distraction came out. To go along with their band name, each band member had a different type social media on their t-shirts like….

Sophomore Coltrane Cho participated in the Winter Concert, playing with The Weapons of Mass Distraction for his second time in his high school career.  Playing bass, Coltrane enjoys participating in band because he likes performing with other people.

Freshman Marisa Luft also performed with The Weapons of Mass Distraction and played the trombone. Marisa said “I enjoy playing music and playing with other people.  Also, I like connecting with other people in different grades, being that I am the only freshman there.”

Soon after the two rock bands finished performing, the jazz ensemble The Accidentals followed.  They performed with various instruments, including the saxophone, bass, clarinet, trumpet and drums.  They also performed three songs.

When speaking to Mr. Paris, the music teacher at the iSchool and instructor of all three bands, he said, “The  bands have been practicing their songs for three months, so almost all year.”  Mr. Paris really appreciates how accessible music is at the iSchool. He says, “You don’t have to attend a special music school to have music as a part of their [student’s] life.”

I believe that the two rock bands and the Jazz Ensemble performed extremely well. It was clear that they were both extremely prepared for the concert.  Each student performed with confidence, which is extremely important.
